Toyota RAV4: Before driving - Opening and Closing the Windows and Moon Roof
Use the window and moon roof controls correctly to open, close, or adjust them as needed. Before operating these features, make sure that no passenger has a hand, arm, or other object near the window or moon roof opening. Careful operation helps maintain comfort inside the Toyota RAV4 while reducing the risk of accidental injury or obstruction. The available controls and functions may vary depending on the Toyota RAV4 model and equipment configuration.
Power windows Toyota RAV4 XA50
Opening and closing the power windows
The power windows of the Toyota RAV4 can be opened and closed by operating the corresponding switches. Use the switch assigned to the window you want to adjust, and make sure the window opening is clear before beginning operation.
Operating a power window switch moves the corresponding side window as described below:

- Closing the side window
- One-touch closing*
- Opening the side window
- One-touch opening*
*: To stop the side window before it becomes fully opened or closed, briefly operate the switch in the direction opposite to its current movement.
■ The power windows can be operated when
The power windows are available for operation when the engine switch is in ON.
■ Operating the power windows after turning the engine off
The Toyota RAV4 power windows can continue to operate for approximately 45 seconds after the engine switch has been turned to ACC or OFF. However, this temporary operating period ends immediately when either front door is opened, after which the power windows can no longer be operated.
■ Jam protection function
If an object becomes trapped between a closing side window and the window frame, the jam protection function stops the window and lowers it slightly. This function is designed to reduce the possibility of an object remaining firmly caught while the side window is closing.
■ Catch protection function
If an object becomes caught between the door and the side window while the window is opening, the catch protection function stops the side window from moving. Always check that passengers and nearby objects are clear of the window before operating it.
■ When the power window cannot be opened or closed
If the jam protection or catch protection function operates abnormally and the affected side window can no longer be opened or closed normally, perform the following operations using the power window switch on that door.
- Stop the Toyota RAV4 in a safe location. With the engine switch in ON, continuously operate the power window switch in the one-touch closing direction or the one-touch opening direction within 4 seconds after the jam protection or catch protection function activates. Continue operating the switch so that the side window can be opened and closed.
- If the side window still cannot be opened or closed after the operation above has been performed, complete the following initialization procedure to restore normal power window operation.
1. Turn the engine switch to ON.
2. Pull and hold the power window switch in the one-touch closing direction until the side window closes completely.
3. Briefly release the power window switch. Then pull it again in the one-touch closing direction and continue holding it for approximately 6 seconds or longer.
4. Press and hold the power window switch in the one-touch opening direction. After the side window has opened completely, continue holding the switch in the same direction for at least 1 additional second.
5. Briefly release the power window switch. Then press it again in the one-touch opening direction and continue holding it for approximately 4 seconds or longer.
6. Pull and hold the power window switch in the one-touch closing direction once again. After the side window has closed completely, continue holding the switch in the same direction for at least 1 additional second to complete the initialization procedure.
If the switch is released while the side window is still moving, the initialization may not be completed correctly. In this case, repeat the entire procedure from the beginning without interrupting the window movement.
If the side window reverses direction or still cannot be fully opened or closed after the procedure has been completed, have your Toyota RAV4 inspected by an authorized Toyota dealer.

WARNING
Observe the following precautions.
Failure to follow these precautions may result in death or serious injury.
■ Closing the power windows
- The driver is responsible for every power window operation, including operation of the windows used by passengers. To prevent accidental activation, especially by a child, never allow a child to operate the power windows. A child or another passenger could have a hand, arm, head, or other body part caught by a moving window.
When traveling with a child in the Toyota RAV4, it is also recommended that the window lock switch be used to prevent unintended operation of the passenger windows.
- Before operating any power window, confirm that all passengers are clear of the window opening and that no part of anyone’s body is positioned where it could become trapped as the window moves.

- When operating the power windows with the wireless remote control, key, or mechanical key, first confirm that no passenger has a hand, arm, head, or any other part of their body in a position where it could become trapped by a moving side window. Never allow a child to operate the Toyota RAV4 power windows using the wireless remote control, key, or mechanical key. Children and other passengers may not recognize the danger and could be caught by a closing window.
- When leaving the vehicle, turn the engine switch to OFF, take the key with you, and make sure that every child exits the vehicle as well. Leaving a child unattended inside the Toyota RAV4 may result in accidental power window operation through play or misuse, potentially causing a serious accident.
■ Jam protection function
- Never place any part of your body in the window opening to intentionally test or activate the jam protection function.
- The jam protection function may not operate if an object becomes trapped immediately before the side window reaches the fully closed position. Always keep hands, fingers, and other body parts away from the window opening while the side window is closing.
■ Catch protection function
- Never use any part of your body or clothing to deliberately activate or test the catch protection function.
- The catch protection function may not operate if an object becomes caught immediately before the side window reaches the fully open position. Make sure that hands, arms, loose clothing, and other items remain clear of the moving window.
Preventing accidental operation (window lock switch)
