*: These lights illuminate when a door is unlocked, making it easier to enter the vehicle and locate items in the surrounding storage areas.
When the shift lever is moved to any position other than P, the brightness of these lights is automatically reduced to help limit glare while driving.
■ Illuminated entry system (vehicles with smart key system)
The illuminated entry system automatically turns the interior lights on or off according to several operating conditions. These include the current engine switch mode, whether the electronic key is detected near the Toyota RAV4, whether the doors are locked or unlocked, and whether any door is opened or closed.
■ To prevent the battery from being discharged
If any interior lights remain illuminated after the engine switch is turned to OFF, they will automatically turn off after approximately 20 minutes. This protective function helps reduce unnecessary battery consumption.
■ Conditions in which the interior lights may turn on automatically
If any SRS airbag deploys or the vehicle experiences a strong rear impact, the interior lights may illuminate automatically. This operation helps occupants assess the cabin and surrounding area after a collision.
The interior lights will turn off automatically after approximately 20 minutes.
The lights can also be switched off manually. However, to improve visibility and help reduce the possibility of a secondary collision, it is recommended that they remain illuminated until the occupants can confirm that the surrounding conditions are safe.
The interior lights may not illuminate automatically in every collision, as operation depends on the force of the impact and the specific conditions under which the collision occurs.
■ Customization
Certain interior lighting settings can be customized, including the amount of time that passes before the lights turn off. Available settings may vary according to the Toyota RAV4 equipment configuration.
NOTICE
■ To prevent battery discharge
Do not leave the interior lights on longer than necessary while the engine is not running. Prolonged use may discharge the Toyota RAV4 battery and make it difficult to start the engine.
Operating the interior lights
■ Front interior lights
Press the corresponding switch to turn each front interior light on or off. The lights can be used independently when additional illumination is needed in the front seating area.
Use the main switch to select the door position, which links front interior light operation to the opening and closing of the doors.
When the door position is active, the front interior lights illuminate whenever a door is opened and turn off according to the illuminated entry system operation.
- Turns the door-linked position on
- Turns the front interior lights off
■ Rear interior light
- Turns the rear interior light on continuously
- Activates the door-linked function, also referred to as the door position
When the door-linked function is selected, the rear interior light turns on and off in response to the opening and closing of the doors.
Operating the personal lights
Press the corresponding personal light switch to turn the light on or off. These individually controlled lights provide focused illumination for the driver or front passenger without requiring all interior lights to be activated.
