Toyota RAV4: Maintenance and care - Hood

Release the hood lock from inside the vehicle, then operate the auxiliary catch at the front of the Toyota RAV4 to raise the hood safely.

Opening the hood

1. Pull the hood lock release lever located inside the vehicle.

The hood will release from the primary lock and rise slightly, allowing access to the auxiliary catch.

WARNING

■ Pre-driving check

Before driving, verify that the hood is completely closed and securely locked.

If the hood is not properly latched, it may open unexpectedly while the Toyota RAV4 is moving and obstruct the driver’s view. This could lead to a collision resulting in death or serious injury.

■ To prevent injuries

The support rod may remain hot after the vehicle has been driven. Avoid touching it with bare skin until it has cooled, as contact with the heated rod can cause burns or other injury.

■ After installing the support rod into the slot

Check that the support rod is inserted securely and can hold the hood in a stable position. An improperly seated rod may slip out and allow the hood to fall onto your head, hands, or body.

■ When closing the hood

Lower the hood carefully and keep your fingers, hands, clothing, and tools away from the closing area. Confirm that no object remains near the latch or along the edges of the hood before it is released.

Warning to keep hands clear while closing the hood

NOTICE

■ When closing the hood

Return the support rod securely to its retaining clip before lowering the hood.

Closing the hood while the support rod is still raised or incorrectly stored can bend the hood, damage the rod, or affect nearby components.
